Turner Family Farms can be found at three farmer’s markets in the Wilmington area.

River Bluffs Farm Market

Turner Family Farms operates the Farmer’s Market at River Bluffs, located on the large veranda outside Porches Cafe, inside the beautiful River Bluffs community.  River Bluffs is located right on the River in Castle Hayne barely eight minutes from Downtown Wilmington.  On Saturdays throughout the year, we offer the same wide range of produce that we provide to our subscription produce box (CSA) clients.  The market often coincides with events put on by the River Bluffs development, including everything from car shows to oyster roasts and live music concerts.  And, as always, market attendees can get a table at Porches to sample some of Chef Erin’s creations.  Please check the River Bluffs Farm Market page on Facebook for specific dates and events, but, as always, the market is located at 1030 Chair Road, Castle Hayne, N.C. 28429.  You’re in the right place when you see the gatehouse to the River Bluffs community.  Don’t let the gate bother you, the public is always welcome!

The Wilmington Farmer’s Market at Tidal Creek

The “Tidal Creek” market, for short, was the brainchild of one of our Partner Farmers, Kyle Stenersen of Humble Roots Farm.  Located in the spacious lawn area at Tidal Creek Co-op, and created as a strictly, producer-only market, there is zero tolerance for re-sellers, so every single item at this market is grown locally by the vendors themselves.  We are privileged to serve as founding board members along with Kyle, David Borkowski of Changin’ Ways, the inimitable Stefan Hartman of Black River Organic Farm, With all these fantastic, authentic growers, there is one person that stands out most to me and that’s Jane Horst, our market manager.  Not only does she do all the set up, scheduling, farm inspections, etc, she’s also a promoter/facilitator/coordinator extraordinaire.  Jane once talked almost every chef of the finest restaurants in Wilmington into donating free dinners-for-two as raffle prizes. Check the Facebook page here to see when that happens again, because last time there were so many prizes it seemed like everybody that came to the market won something.  Tidal Creek Co-op even took notice of Jane’s skills and hired her as their marketing coordinator. Currently, the hours for the Wilmington Farmer’s Market at Tidal Creek are from 8 am to 1 pm every Saturday of the year – a true year ’round market.

The Farmer’s Market at Poplar Grove

This market is one of the oldest in town and is held at the Poplar Grove Plantation.  We enjoy this market very much for it’s grounds and reliable crowds.   In fact, this is where I originally met both Kyle Stenersen and the Fouroses.    While the Tidal Creek market is very strictly a producer only market, and almost exclusively farmers, the Farmer’s Market at Poplar Grove has a very wide variety of vendors, from farmers to local craft artisans and even includes a few produce resellers – in most cases these resellers are bringing in items not grown locally, like apples, peaches, etc.  The market has the added advantage of the facility which is very beautiful and has plenty of shade and parking.  Poplar Grove Plantation itself is well worth exploring and is available for weddings and other events.  The Turner Family Farms staff is planning on attending the Blacksmith Workshop put on by Autumn Day.  We enjoy this market very much and plan to be a perennial vendor.
