Hi Folks,

It’s going to be a nice day on Saturday so come on out to River Bluffs, visit us at the Farm Market, and get a bite to eat at Porches Cafe.  This week’s vendor count is going to be a little low, but, Turner Family Farms will have some nice root vegetables, greens, and our awesome salad mix.  Betsy and Alexis will be there (as always) with Greek meatballs, orzo salad with feta and pine nuts, pastitsio (Greek lasagna,) spanikopita, baklava, spice rubs and cookbooks.  Lauren will be there with her exceptional art-glass, and Julie will be back with her terrific, quirky, PVC birds.  Check below for more details on the vendors for this week.

Over the next few Saturdays, we will be putting together some charity events to coincide with the Saturday markets that include Glen and Amy Chalmers of Petwants, and Trina Coyle of Alice’s Table. I’ll have a lot more information on these events next Wednesday.

For anyone just discovering this unique market operated by Turner Family Farms, the Farm Market at River Bluffs is located on the large veranda outside Porches Cafe, inside the beautiful River Bluffs community.  River Bluffs is right on the Northeast Cape Fear River in Castle Hayne barely eight minutes from Downtown Wilmington.  On Saturdays throughout the year, we offer the same wide range of produce that we provide to our subscription produce box (CSA) clients and to our customers at the two other farmer’s markets we attend.   The market often coincides with events put on by the River Bluffs development, including everything from car shows to oyster roasts and live music concerts.  And, as always, market attendees can get a table at Porches to sample some of Chef Erin’s creations.  Please check the River Bluffs Farm Market page on Facebook for specific dates and events, but, as always, the market is located at 1030 Chair Road, Castle Hayne, N.C. 28429.  River Bluffs is a hidden gem. You’re in the right place when you see the gatehouse to the River Bluffs community.  Don’t let the gate deter you, the public is always welcome!

Vendors for Saturday, February 9, 2019

Turner Family Farms – Ian  will be at the market with the same items our CSA subscription produce box clients received on Thursday (more or less 🙂  He’s going to have a really nice selection this week as mentioned above.

Feast for the Gods – Chefs Alexis and Betsy Fouros are our mainstay at the River Bluffs Farm Market offering Greek and Mediterranean delicacies every week.  They always have their famous spice rubs, cookbooks and baklava, but this week they are bringing Alexis’s Greek meatballs, orzo salad with feta and pine nuts, pastitsio (Greek lasagna,) spanikopita, baklava,.  One of the perks of being market manager is Ian and I get samples.  🙂

Bonardi-Allen Glass Art – The customers at the River Bluffs Farm Market are really enjoying Lauren’s glass art, and, she and Dave are such nice people.  She is an exceptional art-glass maker who has been featured at the Cameron Art Museum.  I’ll get proper pictures of her work for next week’s post.  Lauren and Dave have really beautiful works of art and we are so glad to have a little culture at the market!!

The PVC Bird Lady  – Julie is a Southport resident that creates clever and imaginative bird forms out of PVC.  I have a feeling these birds are going to be in a lot of yards inside and outside of River Bluffs because they went like hotcakes last week.  These things are so cool.  You have to see them in person to appreciate them – very unique and whimsical.

Ok everybody, that’s it for now.  Remember to say “hi” to Ron at the gatehouse on your way in to River Bluffs.    —   Farmer Steve
